Did you know that approximately one out of 10 Americans has a rare disease?  With over 7,000 rare diseases collectively affecting more than 30 million Americans, the chances are pretty good that your connection to our cause is closer then you think.

The challenge is that most people assume if they’ve heard of a disease before then it’s probably not “rare.”  A disease is classified as rare if there are fewer than 200,000 American living with it, regardless of whether or not it’s in the mainstream media.  ALS, cystic fibrosis, pancreatic cancer, and multiple sclerosis are examples of a few of the more “popular” rare diseases

Through a variety of education initiatives, Uplifting Athletes is promoting an understanding of rare diseases to help change this perception and establish a community for those affected -- creating a single voice and inspiring the medical community to find cures.
