Uplifting Athletes is a group of Ohio State football players working together to raise awareness and funds for rare diseases. These rare diseases affect fewer than 200,000 Americans and consequently little attention is paid to them. As college football student-athletes we believe we are in a position to make a difference.

The Ohio State chapter of Uplifting Athletes benefits CMT or Charcot-Marie Tooth Disease. The neuropathy of CMT affects both motor and sensory nerves which include the ability for muscles to contract and the control of voluntary muscle activity such as speaking, walking, breathing, and swallowing. Non-typical features of Charcot-Marie Tooth Disease include weakness of the foot and lower leg muscles, which may result in frequent tripping or falls.

Ohio State football quarterback Terrelle Pryor, Craig, has Charcot-Marie Tooth Disease and his teammates have rallied around the cause.

"Anything can help," Pryor told the Columbus Dispatch at the Video Game Challege which helped raise money for CMT. "It's the thought that counts and all that matters."
