Close to $9,000 was raised at the Maryland chapter of Uplifting Athletes' 2nd annual "Lift For Life."  The money raised will help fight cystic fibrosis, a rare disease that affects nearly 30,000 Americans.  This year's event raised more than double the amount raised at last year's inaugural event.

The "Lift For Life" event was held Tuesday, July 12th at the practice field next to Byrd Stadium.  Members of the Maryland football team participated in the fun-to-watch strength and conditioning competition.  Fans and media had the opportunity to meet the Terrapins and talk about the upcoming season.

The Maryland Chapter of Uplifting Athletes has chosen to help fight cystic fibrosis, an inherited chronic rare disease that affects the lungs and digestive system by producing unusually thick mucus; the condition can clog the lungs and lead to a life-threatening lung infection and can obstruct the pancreas and stop natural enzymes from helping the body break down and absorb food.

The chapter will donate the money raised to the Boomer Esiason Foundation for cystic fibrosis research.  Boomer Esiason played collegiate football at the University of Maryland and graduated in 1984; the Maryland chapter wanted to help out after finding out his son was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis.

You can still get involved by making a donation in honor of your favorite player.  To donate to the Maryland Chapter of Uplifting Athletes, click HERE.
