The mission of Uplifting Athletes is to align college football with rare diseases and raise them as a national priority.

Our vision is a climate that empowers people to take action against rare diseases and inspires the medical community to find cures.

Uplifting Athletes was founded in 2003 by a group of Penn State Football student-athletes who turned an annual weight lifting competition into a fund raiser when a player’s father was diagnosed with kidney cancer. Since then, the effort has evolved into a national nonprofit organization that leverages the appeal of college football to change the perception of rare diseases lacking attention (such as kidney cancer) and raise them as a national priority.
