NC State Chapter Names New Officers for 2012
The North Carolina State chapter of Uplifting Athletes, consisting of members for the Wolfpack football team, has elected new officers for 2012. Offensive Guard Andy Jomantas was elected President; Quarterback Mike Glennon was named Vice President. In addition, Fullback Tyler Purvis was named Secretary. Four other members of the NC State football team were selected as subcommittee chairs. Joe Prater will head up chapter marketing. Jake Kahut will be in charge of public relations; Dontae Johnson will oversee operations and Forrest West will lead the membership and fundraising efforts. New officers will be inducted by January 10th.
Earlier this season, university dining and various campus organizations hosted a tailgate event, called the Bearcat Beatdown, where a “Penny Wars” competition was held. Chapter volunteers also collected donations at a "gate take" during NC State's home game against Central Michigan. The chapter's inaugural event was their College Football Video Game Challenge during Global Rare Disease Day.
Collectively, the team has chosen leukemia as the rare disease in which they raise money. They chose leukemia to support Offensive Coordinator Dana Bible who was diagnosed with Acute Promyelocytic Leukemia, a rare cancer of the blood, in 2009.
