Back to Back
October 13, 2011
I hope all is well.
This past week, Colgate Football earned a physical 26-14 road win over the Monmouth University Hawks. Freshman tight end C.J. Stempeck began the day with a seven yard fourth down reception into the end zone while quarterback Gavin McCarney scored a fourth down rushing touchdown with only 36 seconds remaining in the first half. A defensive shutout and big runs by Nate Eachus sealed the game in the second half.
With our first back to back wins of the year, Colgate Football looks to add to our momentum when rival Cornell comes into town for homecoming this weekend. The offensive line will carry the load as both Nate Eachus and Gavin McCarney are out with a minor concussion and a separated shoulder respectively. Junior Josh Hasenberg will take over at quarterback while Zauhn Lewis and Jordan McCord will fill in at running back. All three have played well this week while special excitement surrounds Hasenberg's start. Hasenberg was in competition for the starting quarterback spot during preseason camp.
As Seniors we have always had our way with Cornell and look to do the same on Saturday. Following Cornell, Colgate Football travels to Georgetown for a critical Patriot League game.
I look forward to writing you next week after this Saturday's Homecoming win over Cornell. Attached are pictures from the Monmouth game.
All the best,
—Kevin
