Emilie J. Korchak, PhD, is a Postdoctoral Fellow in the Bezsonova lab in the Department of Molecular Biology and Biophysics at the University of Connecticut Health Center.
Her research focuses on the functional characterization of the deubiquitinating enzyme Ubiquitin-Specific Protease 7 (USP7), with particular emphasis on how Hao-Fountain syndrome associated pathogenic mutations affect the enzyme’s stability, activity, and substrate binding. She earned her PhD in Biomedical Science in the Molecular Biology and Biophysics Department at the University of Connecticut Health Center.
She is deeply involved in mentorship, supporting undergraduate and graduate students in the laboratory and contributing to scientific outreach. She has served as a mentor and program leader for Farmington High School’s Cutting-Edge outreach program, where high school students spend two weeks conducting a mini-research project to gain hands-on laboratory experience and complement their classroom learning. Outside the lab, she enjoys weightlifting, dancing, reading as part of two book clubs, and painting her nails.
