Dr. Mumau earned her PhD in Microbiology & Immunology from Columbia University before working as a research post-doctoral fellow at the University of Pennsylvania focused on how the immune system regulates the development of different types of blood cells. She currently is a Senior Research Investigator at the Center for Cytokine Storm Treatment & Laboratory (CSTL) at the University of Pennsylvania, and oversees all research related to the translational laboratory. Dr. Mumau is currently working on understanding the mechanisms that drive cytokine storms in Castleman disease, a rare disorder, and developing new treatments for patients. Utilizing patient samples, her research includes developing in-vitro models of Castleman disease to better understand hyperinflammation and to test novel therapeutics. When she’s not in the laboratory, Dr. Mumau enjoys playing soccer, skiing, and making pizza.
